Somali pirates seized four more ships and captured 60 hostages over the past 24 hours. Pirates vowed to kill future US and French hostages after special operations forces killed several pirates. "We have decided to kill US and French sailors if they happen to be among our future hostages," a pirate said.
Pirates are demanding a $25 million ransom to release the hijacked Saudi oil supertanker. Shipping companies are avoiding the route through the Suez Canal in order to dodge the rash of hijacking off the Somali and Yemeni coasts.
An Indian warship attacked a Somali pirate "mother vessel" operating in the Gulf of Aden. The pirate ship was set aflame, but it is unclear if it was sunk. "This vessel was similar in description to the 'Mother Vessel' mentioned in various piracy bulletins," India's Defense Ministry reported.

US and allied navies will establish a maritime security patrol area between the coasts of Somalia and Yemen, under Combined Task Force 150.
