Egyptian interior minister: Al Qaeda cell plotted suicide attack against Western embassy

Egypt's interior minister said that three members of an al Qaeda cell that was plotting to attack a Western embassy have been arrested. The cell received training in Iran and Pakistan and contacted al Qaeda in Algeria. The cell also has ties to the so-called Nasr City Cell.


Follower of Mohammed al Zawahiri dies in attack in Mali

Abu Obeida Sharif Khattab, an Egyptian who appeared in at least two videos with Mohammed al Zawahiri, died in an attack along with three other Egyptians in Mali earlier this month. Mohammed al Zawahiri is the younger brother of al Qaeda emir Ayman al Zawahiri.

Abd el Kader Mahmoud Mohamed el Sayed was a close advisor to al Qaeda emir Ayman al Zawahiri and served as a military commander in Afghanistan before he was killed. El Sayed was involved in the Luxor massacre and, while living in Milan, was recorded by Italian intelligence discussing terror plots against the West.

Egypt arrests a number of wanted jihadists in Sinai

Since Wednesday, Egyptian authorities have reportedly arrested a number of wanted jihadists operating in the Sinai Peninsula. The brother of one of the arrested has threatened to carry out attacks if his brother, Ahmed Allam el Hefny, is not released.
