Iran has freed Osama bin Laden's spokesman, Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, from "house arrest." Abu Ghaith gained infamy after Sept. 11, 2001, when he promised more attacks on American soil. He recruited the al Qaeda cell responsible for the Oct. 8, 2002, attack on US Marines training on Faylaka Island.
Aafia Siddiqui, dubbed "Lady al Qaeda" in the press, was sentenced to 86 years in prison on Thursday. Siddiqui was part of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's network and participated in plotting against the US Homeland.
Five suicide bombers were killed as they attempted to storm Forward Operating Base Gardez in Paktia province.
