The US killed an al Qaeda-linked Taliban commander in Kunar and captured another in Ghazni. Fifteen inmates, include several Taliban fighters, escaped from a prison near Kabul. A Taliban rocket team hit General Dempsey's C-17 on the tarmac at Bagram Air Base.




Al Qaeda releases biography of slain senior leader

Al Qaeda has released a biography of Atiyah Abd al Rahman, a senior al Qaeda operative who served as Osama bin Laden's chief-of-staff. Rahman "engineered" the December 2009 terrorist attack on Combat Outpost Chapman that killed seven CIA officials and a Jordanian intelligence officer.

Al Qaeda-linked Taliban commander killed in recent airstrike in Kunar

Yasir was involved in the Aug. 8 suicide attack in Asadabad, Kunar, that killed a command sergeant major and two staff officers for the 4th Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, and a USAID foreign service officer.


The Taliban killed three New Zealand soldiers in an IED attack in Bamyan and two civilians in a bombing at a cemetery in Helmand. An Afghan policeman killed an ISAF soldier in the south. Four Pakistanis, two Arabs, and a Taliban commander were killed in an airstrike in Kunar. Police killed two Taliban after they opened fire at a mosque in Kapisa.
