The Taliban claimed credit for the attack on the Information and Culture Ministry in Kabul. A small team assaulted the main gate and then entered the compound. Five were killed and dozens were wounded, including children in a daycare center, after the suicide bomber detonated inside the ministry.

The Afghan-Pakistani jirga agreed to negotiate with Taliban elements willing to accept the supremacy of the constitutions of both countries. US troops killed 12 Taliban during the recovery of the downed Blackhawk helicopter in Wardak province. Coalition troops killed one Haqqani network operative and captured seven during operations in Ghazni province. One Coalition soldier was killed in an IED attack in western Afghanistan.
The Taliban downed a US helicopter in Wardak province; no casualties were reported. Two US soldiers and an Afghan child were killed in a suicide attack in Baghlan province. The Taliban abducted 14 road workers in Kunar province.
Senior Taliban commander reported killed in US strike
Unconfirmed reports indicate Haji Omar Khan, a senior Taliban leader who has strong ties to Mullah Omar, has been killed in the Oct. 26 strike.
