Taliban ambush policemen in northern Afghan province

The Taliban ambushed Afghan forces just after the military ended what it claimed was a successful operation to clear the Wardoj district in Badakhshan. More that 20 Afghan policemen are reported to have been killed and an additional 24 are missing.


Taliban release video honoring 'Ghazi' who attacked ISAF soldiers, escaped custody

The Taliban video praises rogue Afghan National Army soldier Lambar Khan, who participated in a deadly July 9 "green-on-blue" attack at Kandahar Airfield, as well as a second rogue ANA soldier, Lieutenant Ihasanullah, who helped free Khan from custody a few days later. Both men are seen pledging allegiance to the Taliban.


Suicide bombers kill 18 Afghan police in 2 attacks in the south

In Uruzgan, a suicide bomber wearing a police uniform detonated at a dining facility, killing 12 policemen. In Kandahar, a suicide bomber killed a border police commander.


Taliban militants bungle coordinated multi-province terrorist attacks

Afghan security forces disrupted terrorist plots in Kabul City and Jalalabad, but a massive explosion near the Parwan provincial governor's compound caused significant damage. An additional suicide attack failed after the bomber prematurely detonated in Kunduz.


Afghan soldiers kill 2 ISAF troops, civilian in latest insider attack

Afghan soldiers "turned his weapon" on US troops in Paktika, killing two soldiers and a civilian adviser. The attack is the seventh of its kind so far this year.


Uzbek national in Idaho arrested, charged with supporting the IMU

Fazliddin Kurbanov is charged with supporting the al Qaeda-linked Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, training others to purchase and assemble components of a bomb, and possessing an "unregistered destructive device."


Afghan forces thwart unprecedented terror plot in Kabul

NDS forces raided a Haqqani Network safe house in eastern Kabul, killing five militants, capturing two others, and seizing a 7,800-kg truck bomb wired for detonation. The bomb's destructive capacity had a radius of nearly one mile, according to Afghan officials.


2 US soldiers killed by Afghan policeman in attack at Special Forces base

An Afghan Local Policeman opened fire on a US Special Forces base in Wardak. The attack is the second of its kind in four days.


Report: airstrike killed Taliban shadow governor Sheikh Dost Mohammed

Dost-Mohammed-AJ.jpg One of the most wanted Taliban commanders in eastern Afghanistan, Sheikh Dost Mohammed, was reportedly killed along with two other Taliban leaders in a US airstrike in the Ghaziabad district of Kunar province. The death of Dost Mohammed has been erroneously reported in the past.


Afghan National Security Forces take over security operations

Afghan National Security Forces combat units are taking over the lead in security operations from the US and ISAF. However, substantial work remains in building the combat support units.


Taliban suicide assault team attacks police headquarters in Kabul

Three policemen and all five members of the suicide assault team were killed during an eight-hour-long firefight. The Taliban claimed credit for the attack.


Afghan policewoman kills US military adviser inside Interior Ministry

An Afghan policewoman assigned to the "gender and equality department" at the Interior Ministry is said to have shot an American civilian adviser in the head at close range.


Taliban release Nuristan attack video

The Taliban website has uploaded a 35-minute-long video depicting a series of attacks against Afghan security forces in the Kamdesh district in Nuristan province.


Afghan soldier kills ISAF trooper in Helmand

An ISAF soldier was also wounded in the insider, or green-on-blue, attack. There have been 42 such attacks this year, resulting in the deaths of 60 ISAF personnel.


Taliban claim over 20 insider attacks in 8 months

A Taliban official responsible for insider, or green-on-blue, attacks in Afghanistan's southern and western provinces claims that Taliban infiltration is behind the great majority of attacks this year, and details the operations of the committee sponsoring them.


Afghan policeman kills 2 British soldiers in Helmand

There have been 40 green-on-blue attacks reported so far this year, resulting in the deaths of 59 ISAF military and civilian personnel.


ISAF soldier, civilian contractor killed in latest green-on-blue attack

The attack took place just two days after the US and NATO resumed joint operations with Afghan forces.


Afghan police kill 4 more Coalition troops

A policeman killed four ISAF soldiers in Zabul, and was subsequently killed in return fire. Fifteen percent of ISAF's casualties have been caused by green-on-blue attacks.


Afghan policeman kills 2 British soldiers in Helmand

The member of the Afghan Local Police was killed after gunning down two British soldiers in Gereshk district. So far this year, 14 percent of ISAF's casualties have been caused by green-on-blue, or insider attacks.


Afghan intelligence thwarts terror plots in Kabul, Logar, and Parwan

Explosives_tank_NDS.jpg Intelligence operatives disrupted four terror plots in the past two days and captured nine suspected Taliban insurgents along with homemade explosives believed to have been smuggled into Kabul from Pakistan.
