Marines on the border with Syria

Light armored vehicles with Task Force 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion, Regimental Combat Team 8 traverse the rocky terrain of the Sinjar Mountains in northwestern Iraq on a constant basis while deployed in Ninewa province. The Sinjar regions is one of the primary crossing points for al Qaeda and foreign fighters entering Iraq from Syria. The battalion was one of the first LAR battalions to enter Iraq and will be the very last LAR battalion to leave. Photo from DVIDS.
