Pakistan

A senior Army official called Taliban leaders Baitullah Mehsud and Mullah Fazlullah “patriots.” The Taliban killed a “US spy” in North Waziristan. Eight Taliban and three policemen were killed in fighting in Bannu. Nine Taliban were killed in Bajaur. One person was killed in a rocket attack on NATO supply trucks in Peshawar.


India

The Indian Mujahideen threatened to attack Delhi. The captured Mumbai terrorist said he was trained in camps in Pakistan, received training from the Pakistani Navy, and had help from Dawood Ibrahim. Three RDX bombs were found at the Taj and Trident hotels.




Afghanistan

Coalition troops killed 16 Hezb-i-Islami fighters in Kabul. Three civilians were killed in a suicide attack on a German convoy in Kabul. A female UN employee and a security contractor were killed. The German general in charge of special forces savaged his country’s efforts in Afghanistan.


Somalia

Two people were killed and 10 were wounded in three bombings in Baidoa. Ethiopian forces are being surged into southern Somalia prior to a planned pullout. The Islamic Courts flogged five people in Baladwein.

Iraqi forces detained 105 “wanted men” in Basrah, 18 in Mosul, 15 in Baghdad, and eight al Qaeda fighters in northern Iraq. US forces captured an al Qaeda in Iraq car bomb cell leader and three “criminals” in Baghdad. The UN said “militants” would try to disrupt elections.
